Most investors say there is room for both SAP and Oracle to grow in an environment of healthy spending on IT by companies.

Oracle is the global leader in databases, but has been on a multibillion-dollar acquisition spree in order to take on SAP head-to-head in the field of software applications.

SAP shares trade at a 2007 price/earnings premium of about 40 percent to Oracle's, according to Reuters Estimates, reflecting SAP's more tried and tested organic growth strategy.
